History

The Bayfield Ukulele Society started in 2015 when Nancy Moore taught herself how to play the ukulele and reasoned that there were likely others who liked to play and thought “wouldn’t it be great if we played together?”

Nancy created a poster asking folks to come join the ‘Bayfield Ukulele Society’ or BUS for short, and posted them around town.  The library reached out to her and offered a room at the library for gathering and four people showed up to the first “jam” in June of 2015.

Over the next 18 months as word spread about just how much fun folks were having playing the ukulele and singing together, more and more people joined.  Eventually, so many people joined that they outgrew the library and moved to the St. Andrew’s United Church basement. Within another 18 months they outgrew St Andrews’ and moved to the Community Centre, which is where we continue to meet in the cold weather.  When the weather is nice, we jam at Clan Gregor Square in the Gazebo.
